The Iconic Trench Coat

Wearing a trench instantly makes me think of Audrey Hepburn or Jacky Kennedy…glamour…This timeless piece speaks elegance and chic. A little bit of history: the trench was originally an item of clothing for Army officers (developed prior to the war but adapted for use in the trenches of the First World War hence its name) and shows this influence in its styling.  Both Burberry and Aquascutum, major fashion houses claim the right to be the inventor of the trench. The truth is the trench has reached the status of iconic piece of our wardrobe.

We wear it any time, rain or shine, with or without belt.

The other day, I was in the mood of wearing this trench coat from Zadig et Voltaire. I love the leather detail and python print of the collar. I teamed it with Muubaa leather skinnies and a Zara denim shirt. This is such an easy outfit to pull off. A synthesis of basics so to speak!

There are so many possibilities to wear the trench coat, whether you choose a short, mid length or the classic long length version. You can also have it as a vest. I love this cropped trench coat as seen on Leandra Medine from Manrepeller
